A little about us

Josh’s love of sauna began in early adulthood, when he and his friends built simple saunas along the shores of Lake Revelstoke. After more than 20 years in the East Kootenays, that passion grew into an idea: to create a mobile sauna that could be shared with the wider community.

Josh designed and built The Hut Sauna himself, named it Olaus, which was inspired by the spirit of adventure of the great Olaus Jeldness (see below). Our vision is to offer a welcoming place where the community can slow down, recover, and find relief from the stresses of everyday life.

Laura grew up with sauna as a way of life in Roberts Creek, BC alongside a lifelong love of herbs, wellness, and holistic healing. She helps shape sessions that feel welcoming, restorative, and easy to enjoy.

Together, Josh and Laura invite their community to step into the heat, cool off, take a breath, and share the simple magic of slowing down in the heart of the East Kootenays.

this is OLAUS

We named our sauna after Laura’s great-great-grandfather, Olaus Jeldness: a Norwegian-born adventurer whose life was shaped by hard work, wild landscapes, and contributions to his community. He was born in Stangvik Norway in 1856. Olaus was known as a free thinker, a community minded man, and the father of competitive ski jumping in Western Canada. In addition, he was a mining engineer and a savvy business man. His passion, enthusiasm and hard work helped shape the early days of Rossland, BC where a statue now stands in his honor.

We imagine Olaus would have loved to relax in a sauna after a long day of mining, pioneering, and skiing. Sauna is an essential part of the Nordic experience.

Sauna is a place to soothe tired muscles after a hard day in the mountains,or to unwind with friends in the evening.
